I had an wonderful lunch today…smiling from ear to ear while writing this blog. Puas hati..kekenyangan. What did I have for lunch?? Hmmm…soru banana leaf rice..ammaaa…yummy yummy. Dah lama tak makan. Been yearning to eat this meal since two weeks back but never really had the time to go. As promised, my colleague brought me (this is the best part of being the only lady and the youngest in my office..hehehe) to Paandi Restaurant in PJ with my two other colleagues. 3 guys and a girl went for a banana leaf lunch.
Eating banana leaf is actually an experience of its own – from the way they prepare the meal to how u eat it. The first thing when I came in, I was greeted by the aroma of fried chickens and fishes…a definite appetizer. Then when I took my place in the restaurant, I was surrounded by at least 5 waiters, one waiter would put the banana leaf in front of me (cleaned one..no worries..I inspected it first) while another waiter would scoop the rice on the leaf. The next waiter asked me whether I want fried chicken or fried fish – I chose the fried ikan tenggiri. Sedapppnyaaaa…Another waiter lak took the drinks order, sorang lagi put 3 types of keropok on my rice, then another waiter came to pour the fish curry gravy. Mean while another came with 3 types of vegetables – took all coz dah start pening…sorang lagi datang bawak yogurt, salt and rasam (soup) – but I declined..don’t like the spicy taste of the soup. One more waiter came with acar and chadni.I took both…finally..I was left in peace to start eating..hehehe..kecoh betul..Wait..how many waiters actually served me tadi yek? Korang kira sendiri lah..I’m confused already.
Anyway, while I was enjoying my meal, I observed that there were different types of races in the shop. There were Malays, Chinese (3 tables) and of courselah..Indians..Multi racial betul dalam kedai tu. This is what I enjoyed most being a Malaysian, I have the choice to eat different types of cuisines. irregardless which race it came from…as long as they are Halal, I would love to try them out. Can’t help but to feel proud being a Malaysian..today. Patutlah I read in a few magazines that some of the expatriates here had difficulties to adjust back to their own foods when they went back to their own countries. Ada yang even craving for “teh tarik” when they got back to their country. There was this French chef (if I’m not mistakenlah) craving for teh tarik. So after 4 years, he came back to Malaysia for a visit and the first thing that he do when the plane touched down was to buy teh tarik at the airport….teruk betul gian teh tarik mamat nih.
In the end, I felt satisfied today (as a custom I folded the banana leaf towards me as sign that I like the food and would come again) , walaupun masa baru nak makan tadi I teringat what my Uncle Joe said about these kind of shops (citer kes-kes rendam seluar d****m kat dalam curry tu) heheh…Sorry uncle..for today, I don’t care what u said..craving giler nak pekena banana leaf rice. I had to put aside ur remarks lah uncle...hehehe. Anyway my colleague assured me that this place is Halal and clean..so, no worries.
Sat agi, nak masuk meeting, let’s hope I wont fall asleep- kenyang and its raining now, dah ler nak review numbers during meeting ni…zzzzz. Petang nak kena workout extra hard, to reduce my calories that I gained from the banana leaf – a pure satisfaction!
Back to work!!!
